Waking up and feeling sluggish and lazy is a feeling that we can all remember. For many of us this will be from this morning. Getting up fresh, from a long night of sleep is something we can only dream of.
Bergamot as an essential oil

Let me introduce you to bergamot. Bergamot essential oil is extracted from the rind of the bergamot orange, a citrus fruit, and is cold pressed into an oil.
Some of you may already know a little bit about essential oils and might question the effectiveness of a citrus fruit as a sleeping aid. It is true to a large extent that citrus fruit scents tend to have energy boosting and mood lifting properties.
However, the bergamot is special. It is actually considered the most effective in lowering stress levels and helping us to sleeping according to a study conducted in 2006 (1). This is surpassing even lavender which traditionally takes most of the credit in aromatherapy for inducing sleep.
Fun Fact: Begamot is also a key ingredient in Earl Grey tea. It contributes significantly to the earl grey’s reputation as being helpful at easing anxiety.
How can bergamot help you sleep?
The way in which the scent works is science based. When the essential oil diffuses and interacts with our nervous system it triggers a response in our nervous system. It causes our blood pressure to drop and our mind is forced to move away from high stress functions. This allows our body to relax fully and allow us to sleep properly.
So, if you are someone who takes more than half an hour to fall asleep as you toss and turn in your bed; if you are someone who wakes up sluggish and not fresh: I recommend VESNA's Zesty Bergamot wax melts or reed diffuser to help you in having a full night of healthy sleep. It is proven to be the most effective scent for this and aromatherapy is a great way to fully engage with the effects of the essential oil.
